Messaging Security Leader selects Norman SandBox Analyzer tools
12 July 2007 – Messaging security vendor, MessageLabs,
has chosen Norman’s SandBox Analyzer tools to further enhance its malware
analysis capabilities following the interception of new and unknown stopped by
Skeptic™, MessageLabs unique proprietary threat protection technology.
Predictive and proactive, Skeptic delivers unrivalled
zero-hour protection from even the most sophisticated and targeted security
threats at the internet level, well away from its client’s network.
Norman Sandbox Analyzer tools, in addition to other industry leading tools,
will provide MessageLabs with invaluable insights into the malware used and
comprehensive information about the nature of these threats.
“The threat landscape is constantly evolving and so
are the techniques used by the bad guys to infect or attack their victims.
Norman’s tools, along with our other analysis techniques, will
enable us to more quickly analyse files that we have identified as new malware,
allowing us to quickly have a good understanding the nature of the threat,"
said Maksym Schipka, senior architect at MessageLabs.
Norman SandBox Analyzer automates the process of analysing
suspicious files, identifying what type of malware it is and whether it is a
threat. SandBox Analyzer also establishes what the potential impact of
the malware would be by establishing how it would change the system, for
example by deleting or creating files, or altering registry and system
settings. It can handle large numbers of files at one time and enables users to
gain an understanding of the behaviour of the file more quickly and effectively
than ever before.
SandBox Analyzer Pro conducts deep analysis of suspicious
files and is unique in allowing users to analyse malicious code, including
viruses, worms, Trojans and keyloggers. It is used for reverse engineering and
debugging malware, and performs the functions of a complete virus analysis lab.
Both SandBox Analyzer and SandBox Analyzer Pro are underpinned by
Norman’s SandBox technology - a fully-simulated computer isolated within
the application that allows rogue files to be run to view their impact, without
any risk of infecting the network.
“MessageLabs is very well respected in the messaging
and web security space, with over 15,000 customers worldwide. It has
become this successful through its proactive approach to protecting its
customers, always looking for the latest technology to help it counter the
array of different threats out there. We are really pleased that it has chosen
the SandBox Analyzer products to continue to deliver the best possible service
to its customers, and we feel it is a great testament to the power of our
solutions,” said David Robinson, Country manager - UK & Ireland,
Norman Data Defence.
